RE Paul\’s post. Datacentre covers you for unlimited VM\’s, so you don\’t need any additional standard licenses. You do need to remember is licenses per core and not per-socket though which can get pricey.

That would only be if you actually want to change the installed version of Windows. Datacenter as a VM offers no features beyond what Standard offers, so there is no reason to do this. Just purchase the proper licensing for each machine and you\’re set. True, but why wouldn\’t you switch it so it is activated and makes your life easier?

Also switching the version frees up the standard license. Keep it simple also applies to the next person administering. If I didn\’t have previous knowledge of the datacenter license but I know the standard license agreement is expired, as an admin I might think we would need to purchase new licenses.
